The Cannonball dive is a dive for the people. It doesn't discriminate against body type, race, religion, political affiliation, social status, or fashion sense. And if you've never done a Cannonball then you'd better just shut down this computer, go find a body of water, and dive in! When you're jumping into the water on a beautiful summer day, with nothing on your mind except leaping high, balling up tight, and making a splash that is going to get as many people wet as possible, that moment you're in the air might be the best feeling you can have with your swimsuit on.
Now you may think that a wine company called Cannonball is not very serious. True, we try not to take ourselves too seriously, but that's because wine should be enjoyable. Now don't get us wrong. We're serious about quality, honesty, and enjoying life. And, we're dead serious about spreading our love and passion for wine by offering great wines at great prices. That means we want every wine you taste from us to be a WOW wine. If you're going to pay $12-60 for a bottle of wine, it better hold some WOW.
So while the swan dive might be graceful, a back one-and-a-half somersault-tuck might be impressive, and a cliff dive is just ballsy, if you do them right, they don't make a splash. So follow our instructions on how to Cannonball and we hope you find our wines as enjoyable and memorable as those summers you spent as a kid doing Cannonballs. And don't forget to share the splash with friends.
Dive in!

SONOMA COUNTY CHARDONNAY
Considering Cannonball is known for big Cab Sauv, it's hard to imagine that there was a time when the guys at Cannonball were drinking a lot of Chardonnay. We'll claim that it was back when California Chard was really good and relatively inexpensive. But like shoulder pads and Bobby McFerrin, it got too big, too fast, and we moved on.
One day, the team decided to taste through a dozen pricey bottles of Chardonnay. We were surprised to find how few we really liked. So we decided to see if we could make a killer Chardonnay that would restore our faith. We didn't want it un-oaked or over-oaked. We wanted body, but not butter. It had to have beautiful fruit, but not just fruit-forward. It had to be great, or the plan was to gift it all to our mothers-in-law.
Unfortunately for them, we love it. It totally restored our belief in Chardonnay, and we hope it wows you too. We think it's “Chard You Can Believe In.” Enjoy.
2009 VINTAGE NOTES FROM WINEMAKER DENNIS HILL
The 2009 vintage for Chardonnay benefitted from the great California growing conditions. The late winter and early spring were unusually warm and dry The summer was cool and temperate, to the point that we started to worry about ripeness. Luckily a nice long warm spell arrived and harvest was in full swing before we knew it. And since all the Chardonnay came in before the October rains, it was wonderful. In Russian River, where I have my vineyard, and where most of the Cannonball Chardonnay was sourced, the weather was very cool compared to other vintages, and it was an excellent year for Chardonnay.
This wine is beautifully integrated in both flavor and texture. You instantly notice the bright aromas of Meyer lemon, pineapple, papaya, Gravenstein apples, and for me, a hint of pecan pie. The color is bright and lively. It just looks tasty. And it is. The taste has flavors of Crane melons, lemon meringue pie, and apple cobbler. The wine has great weight, volume, and silk. It is a powerful expression of the diversity of Sonoma County showing the complexity and beauty of a great vintage.

The 2007 Cannonball Cabernet Sauvignon presents a lively, dark ruby color, like burgundy velvet. Aromas of fresh berries, spice, and pepper with a faint background of vanilla oak are very much reflected in the mouth. Full and rich with bright acidity, the berry and spice flavors are boldly presented along with racy, red fruit and vanilla-cherry on a layer of cocoa. The finish is classic Cannonball, smoothe, long, delicious. I recommend enjoying between now and 2011 to really get the most of the big fruit., but really let the wine open up in your glass to experience all the layers and complexity. For those preferring a more mature and mellow style, decant for one hour before serving.
You can't go wrong with enjoying Cannonball with a big piece of quality red meat, a great burger, short ribs, barbeque. I had a bottle with my wife over a great thin crust pizza, and even she agreed it was terrific. I hope you enjoy.
