VINEYARDS
Hilliard Bruce planted 21 acres of vineyard on 101 acres starting in 2004. Our wine is made 100% from estate vineyards, strictly Pinot noir and Chardonnay

The vineyards are located off Highway 246 near these vineyards: Clos Pepe, Babcock, Melville, Huber, Taylor, Cebada Canyon, Kessler Haak, Gypsy Canyon, Zotovitch. We are directly across 246 from Dos Hermanas Vineyard (Ashley's).

Pinot noir: 17.5 acres (Calera, Pommard, 115, 667, 777, 828)
Chardonnay: 3.5 acres (76, 96)
Vines per acre: 2,420
Spacing: 6 feet by 3 feet
Trellis system: vertical shoot positioned
Irrigation: both drip/double drip and overhead sprinklers, conditioned water
Certification: Certified Sustainable by SIP (Sustainability In Practice)
Yield per acre: less than 2 tons grapes from 2,420 vines per acre
Yield per vine: less than 1.65 lbs per vine (1lb per vine in 2010)
Soil profile: sandy silt very low in organic matter, extremely fast draining
Solar powered by 35 Kilowatts of solar panels.Water from our own 6 acre foot reservoir, Compost made on site in static aeration building

2009 Hilliard Bruce Chardonnay

The 2009 Chardonnay comes across as quite elegant in its layered fruit. White peaches, lime, lemon and subtle French oak frame the finish in this exquisite, refined Chardonnay built on elegance rather than power. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2017.

Consulting oenologist Paul Lato oversees winemaking at Hilliard Bruce, a winery that began planting vineyards in 2004. These are striking wines for such a new property.

2009 Hilliard Bruce "Sun" Pinot Noir

The 2009 Pinot Noir Sun is a decidedly more muscular, powerful wine than the 2009 Pinot Noir Moon tasted alongside it. Rich dark fruit, spices and sweet French oak fill out the broad-shouldered frame in convincing fashion. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020.
