Karl Lawrence Cellars



The grapes for the Karl Lawrence Cabernet Sauvignon come from three renowned appellations within the Napa Valley. The Gary Morisoli Vineyard which is the main and the larger proportion of the blend is located in Rutherford on the valley floor. Fruit from this vineyard shows great Cabernet character with intense aroma and flavor, and lends a rich smooth feel to the finished wine. Another vineyard selection is the Herb Lamb Vineyard. This hillside vineyard just off Howell Mountain produces a more intense and concentrated fruit that gives a big, rich, spicy character to the blended wine. The third vineyard selection is Beckstoffer-To Kalon located in Oakville. These grapes being clone # 6 add in an intenseness and bold focused structure to the overall blend.

VINIFICATION

All the grapes are hand harvested at their optimum maturity, and hand sorted prior to crushing. Crushed to small tank fermenters where they under-go fermentation and pump-overs. After fermentation is complete the wines are gently pressed and transferred to French oak barrels to finish malo-latic fermentation. After a few months of aging in French oak barrels the wines are then carefully pre-blended to achieve their perfect balance and expression of each individual vineyard. After an additional 18-20 months of barrel aging the wines are then carefully blended together to achieve their
perfect balance and expression as Karl Lawrence Cabernet. Shortly after final blending the wine is bottled and then held for further aging in the bottle before it is released.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES

The 2006 Karl Lawrence Cabernet is very fruit expressive in the aromas and taste. Big forward aromas of black cherry, currants, with hints of bittersweet chocolate and mocha. Rich, smooth flavors follow hand in hand to the wonderful aromas. Flavors are plush with bright dark cherry, currant, coco, with hints of sweet vanilla and toasty oak. All is perfectly laced together with the subtle tannins and perfect acidity. This 2006 will be a crowd pleaser young and will only improve with time.
