Ken Wright Cellars remains a benchmark for Oregon Pinot Noir. Wright’s portfolio of 2006s is outstanding across the board. As has become customary, Ken Wright has pulled off a tour de force in farming and winemaking. (Robert Parker)

Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Blanc 09
Originally our Pinot Blanc was sourced exclusively from Freedom Hill vineyard. However, when the vineyard was attacked by phylloxera, we found refuge(and some pretty great juice) in the slopes of Meredith Mitchell west of McMinnville.
In 2007, Dan and Helen Dusschee replanted Pinot Blanc at Freedom Hill. After scrupulous care and much patience it is this 2009 vintage that marks the return of Freedom Hill Pinot Blanc. This marriage of Freedom Hill and Meredith Mitchell provides tremendous complexity and vibrant minerality.
Pinot Blanc is a lighter-colored natural mutation of Pinot Gris. Our source for this fruit is a one acre block of Freedom Hill Vineyard and Meredith Mitchell Vineyard. After pressing the juice, it is fermented in one year old French barrels. The new wine remains in barrel with the original yeast and is not racked until bottling. The wine has a floral/mineral focus. 200 cases are produced. |

Ken Wright Cellars 2009 Chardonnay
By combining the richness and ripeness of Del Rio Vineyard fruit and the acid and mineral complexity of Celilo vineyard we ended up with an incredibly expressive and balanced Chardonnay blend. The blend consists of 73% Celilo Vineyard and 27% Del Rio Vineyard Chardonnay.
MORE INFORMATION
Celilo is a unique vineyard situated on a 1,000' bluff overlooking the Columbia River in the Columbia River Gorge. It lies on the south face of Mount Underwood, which is currently an inactive volcano. The soil is pulverized basalt, extremely porous and loose, which promotes deep rooting. The vineyard was planted in 1983.
Unlike the Chardonnay grown in the hot eastern desert of Washington, this is a much cooler site. As a result, the fruit retains more acidity and the wine displays a clean mineral character with an expansive texture. |

Located at the southern end of the Eola Hills and faces southeast. The vines were planted in 1982 and 1983. They are vertically trellised and are of the Pommard clone. Elevation is 450' to 550'. The soil is a mix of Jory and Nekia. Both are formed from igneous rock and have a reddish-brown tint. This site, however, has less depth than similar soils in the Dundee Hills. Wine from this vineyard is typically very forward, with aromas of black cherry and cola. Approximately 625 cases are produced. The vineyard is owned by Dick and Nancy Daniel, and managed by Mark Gould.
