Sloan Wine

SLOAN ESTATE is nestled in the eastern hills of the Rutherford appellation of the Napa Valley.
Planted in 1997 to just under 14 acres of vines, the vineyard is made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
The unique layout and direction of the rolling slopes provide for warmth and sunshine to achieve optimal ripeness and physiological tannin maturity. Its elevation at 700 – 800 feet allows for a gentle breeze that helps in the cooling of temperatures in the evening.
Combined with this marine influence and a lingering early morning fog, the sandy loam and layers of weathered volcanic ash in the soil pattern create a fine mineral characteristic as well as a balance and beautiful fruit finesse notable in the flagship SLOAN and second wine ASTERISK.
Both wines are aged in 100% new French oak barrels for approximately 26 months and cellared in the bottle for an additional year prior to their release. With the original cast of production superstars in place since the 2001 vintage — David Abreu leading the cultivation of the vineyard, Martha McClellan as the extraordinarily talented winemaker, and master blender Michel Rolland as the consulting oenologist — the Pan Family and the SLOAN ESTATE team continue to be devoted to the mission of producing the highest quality of wines possible that are the truest reflection of the terroir of their hillside estate vineyard.
The 2002 and 2007 vintages of SLOAN received the elusive 100-point rating from Mr. Robert Parker, while the 2002 vintage was awarded a rerating of 100 points by Mr. Parker in 2012.

Robert Parker 98+

The 2013 Proprietary Red Sloan is from the same 13 acres of estate vineyard. Typical of the vintage, it is spectacular, inky purple and massive, with unbelievably ripe fruit and a vibrancy and delineation that is breathtaking – given the richness and massiveness of this wine that is a true long-term prospect. It needs 5-6 years of further bottle age and should easily last 30-35 years. The notes of black truffle, charcoal, incense, blackberry and cassis fruit are followed by a full-bodied, stunningly proportioned wine that is loaded, incredibly pure and well-delineated. It is a killer effort from Sloan and probably capable of matching their great efforts in 2001, 2002 and 2007.
