TERRE ROUGE and EASTON Wines is located in California on the West Slope of the Sierra Nevada in Amador County's Shenandoah Valley. Our wines are made from vineyards in four Sierra Foothill counties: Placer, El Dorado, Amador, Calaveras, and the Clements Hills appellation. We farm our vineyards sustainably and our winery derives most of its electrical power from solar panels located on the roof of the main winery building.

The TERRE ROUGE portfolio is composed of wines made from Rhône varietals. Our winemaker, Bill Easton puts his family name, EASTON, on our non-Rhône varietals wines.
2006 Easton Zinfandel - Fiddletown Pris: 198,00 DKK
These old vines barely provide a crop each year. The vineyard is about as old as they come in California with vines dating to the original planting in 1865. When you gaze on the vineyard on a cold Spring day after the vines have been pruned, the thousands of stout, thickly trunked vines are not unlike an amorphous Henry Moore sculpture, arms raised, pleading with the heavens for enough water to grow for another year. This vineyard is farmed with simplicity: pruning, plowing, and finally picking at the perfect time determined by our winemaker. Crop yields are incredibly low, 1- 1½ tons per acre. Every year the wines are different and a revelation. We do not blend this wine with other Zinfandels in our cellar. EASTON Fiddletown Zinfandel is always 100% Zinfandel from the Rinaldi-Eschen Vineyard. The finished wine has thick brambly blackberry fruit with pepper, anise, clove, and other exotic spices.. Fat and mouth filling, this Zin has great persistence on the palate. Like all our EASTON Zinfandels, this wine was aged in exclusively French oak and will hold well for 5-10 years.
2008 Terre Rouge Enigma - Shenandoah Valley Pris: 175,00 DKK
Enigma is made from fruit harvested from one vineyard site, Suma Kaw, planted in volcanic soil at the elevation of 3,000 feet. This high, cool elevation allows us to let the fruit hang for full flavor development while maintaining proper acidity. The vines grow on a vertical trellis with upward shoot and cane positioning for good fruit exposure to sunlight. The grapes are hand-picked into small bins and whole-cluster pressed. Fermentation takes place in older French oak barrels with a variety of yeasts. The wine is generally bottled 9-10 months later. Aromas suggest wildflower honey and acacia blossom with hints of tangerine and papaya. Flavors are creamy with peach, apple, and quince sensations competing for your taste buds. The finish is crisp with classic white Rhône stone (peach) fruit pit flavors intermingled with mineral tones from this rocky site. Enjoyable young, the wine also gains great complexity with bottle age.
2005 Terre Rouge Syrah, Sentinel Oak Vineyard Pris: 230,00 DKK
Our single vineyard Syrah, Sentinel Oak, is from the oldest Syrah vineyard in the Sierra Nevada (est. 1982) and one of the most famous Syrah sites in California. Each year it provides us with intense luscious fruit. The vineyard is at 1400 feet on a South-facing slope in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, right near our winery. Dark in color with dense, deep, layered fruit aromas that are incredibly spicy. In the mouth you'll find incredibly concentrated framboise flavors, smoky wood tones, and fine tannins. The fruit macerates for two weeks in an open-top fermenter with punch-downs two to three times a day before pressing, then aged for 23 months in 100% French oak (33% new François Frères). This wine is so meaty and with such great structure, we wait a couple years after bottling to release it. Even then, this wine is just starting to show what it can do and will reward you for many years to come.
2006 Easton Zinfandel, late harvest - Fiddletown 500 ml Pris: 150,00 DKK
We are excited about our EASTON Late Harvest Zinfandel from the Rinaldi Vineyard in the Fiddletown appellation of Amador County. This is a historic site that dates to at least 1865 when it was called the Cox Vineyard. We make our regular bottling of Fiddletown Zin from this vineyard as well. We produce the Late Harvest only in years when the fruit lends itself to this style, and we leave one block of the vineyard to hang until the sugar reaches 30 ° plus brix. The wine still retains a sense of style and balance without overt dehydrated Zinfandel flavors. Rich, blackberry and dark chocolate flavors with an attractive white pepper spiciness that I like to get in most of my Zinfandels. We bottle the wine in a beautiful 500ml European bottle.
