Luli wines

We live wine. We are a master sommelier, grapegrowers and winemakers. Our partnership—Sara Floyd and the Pisoni Family—came together from different aspects of the wine business. Sara is a Master Sommelier, the owner of Swirl Wine Brokers and has a long history in wine and restaurants. The Pisoni Family is known for its eponymous vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands and for Pisoni Estate and Lucia wines. Deciding that we would make a great team and noting the shortage of handcrafted wines at reasonable prices, we set out to create a new line of wines that you would love, at prices you can afford. We seek high quality fruit and craft exceptional wines.
The Luli wines are made from vineyards in or near the Santa Lucia Highlands. Our goal is to showcase the beauty of our region with wines of consistent quality. We source and purchase grapes from lifelong friends in the area, and are therefore able to maintain a close eye on the farming. The wine production, aging and bottling are done entirely at our own winery.

Luli represents a partnership formed by Sara Floyd and the Pisoni Family. Sara Floyd is a Master Sommelier with many years of food and wine experience.
The Pisoni Family is known for their eponymous vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands and for Pisoni Estate and Lucia wines.
Deciding they would make a great partnership and noting the shortage
of handcrafted wines at reasonable prices, they set out to create a new line of wines for this niche. To achieve this, Floyd and the Pisoni Family focus on purchasing grapes from multiple vineyards in the Santa
Lucia Highlands and the greater Monterey County—California coastal regions excellent for growing cool-climate grapes.
After a difficult 2015 harvest and years of prolonged drought, the 2016 vintage saw ideal weather conditions and a perfect yield of fruit. Rain returned to Monterey County in the beginning of the 2016 season (about 12 inches, the most our area has seen since 2011). Budbreak began the second week in March and vines showed more life and energy due to the early season soil moisture. Strong early season growth required additional labor to tend to the vines. Fruit set progressed optimally and summer saw the characteristically cool, windy and fog-blanketed conditions of the appellation. August temperatures were cooler than average which allowed for a slow, gentle ripening up to harvest. Patience was necessary for harvest, which began the first week of September and continued until the first week of October.
The 2016 Luli Chardonnay was sourced entirely from the Santa Lucia Highlands. It is a blend from two sustainably-farmed vineyards. The well-trained vineyards carry low yields and are planted to a variety of different clones, which, combined with the fog and cool winds of the Santa Lucia Highlands provide ideal growing conditions for Chardonnay.
The Luli Chardonnay was made from hand-picked fruit and whole- cluster pressed grapes. The juice and wine is not settled so it goes to barrel and ages with original lees that contribute complexity to the wine. Fermentation was carried out in 100% neutral oak barrels. These neutral barrels give the wine great focused aromatics while bringing texture and mineral notes. Minimal less stirring keeps the wine exceptionally pure. Malo-lactic fermentation was prevented to preserve the bright aromatics.
Aging peacefully on its lees for 9 months in 100% neutral French oak barrels, the 2016 Luli Chardonnay possesses a youthful and vibrant aromatic profile with distinct mineral undertones. A core of red apple, Key lime, and honeysuckle pave the way into a complex and textured palate, loaded with ripe pear, stone fruit, and crushed rocks. Cool, foggy mornings in the vineyard are swept away by afternoon winds, which allow for slow even ripening and the preservation of balanced and fresh acidity in the wine.

2015 Luli Pinot Noir Pris: 220,00 DKK
The 2015 Luli was sourced entirely from various sustainably farmed vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The vines are well-trained, carry low yields and are planted to a variety of different clones. Soils are well-drained and primarily granite in composition. These factors, combined with the fog and cool winds of the Santa Lucia Highlands provide wonderful growing conditions for Pinot Noir.
The Luli Pinot Noir was made with classic winemaking techniques: Hand-sorting of the fruit, native yeasts for fermentation and production in small lots. The wine was aged in ‘neutral’ French oak barrels and was not fined or filtered. The resulting balanced wine is a tribute to the region’s success with Pinot Noir.
From the first pour to the last drop, the 2016 Luli Pinot Noir offers vibrant aromatics of fresh black cherry, ripe strawberry, and sous bois. Medium ruby in color, this wine showcases the rugged, foggy slopes of the Santa Lucia Highlands with its lively acidity and rich flavors—of crushed plum and baking spice. The 2016 vintage yielded wines with seamless layers of texture and structure that come to life here with a voluminous blanket of soft, supple tannin. This wine’s story will continue to unfold as it opens up in the glass over a long dinner.
