Szent Tamás vineyard:
Sharing its microclimate with Nyulászó hill, Szt. Tamás is south facing and can be seen on the right hand side of the road entering Mád. The 22 parcels which form the company’s 11 ha holding are of the very highest quality. Classed a 1st growth in 1700’s, today Szt. Tamás is one of the most expensive vineyard hills in its commune. Soil: rich clay and very characteristic reddish minerals.
Vintage Notes:
After a mild and dry winter we had a long spring season, with lovely warm days, but cool, almost chilly nights. The flowering season was unusually long and there was an uneven fruit set in many vineyards and for all grape varieties.
Throughout summer the weather was almost perfect. In July and August the region was hit by hail, but there was no serious damage and overall we had a successful ripening season.
Overall the quality was very high with good acidity and acceptable volumes.
Vinification:
The grapes were harvested towards the end of October. We destemmed and macerated the grapes in the presses overnight. After pressing and settling we fermented in stainless steel tanks. The fermentation was followed by 6 months barrel maturation, only new, Zemplén wood, 300 litre barrels were used.
Tasting notes:
Spicy, aromatic on the palate with hints of fresh pear and peaches. The freshness, the mineral structure, the full-bodied richness all together form a perfect balance in taste. Long, clean aftertaste with nice barrel maturation notes.
Recommendations:
Serve at 12°C on its own or with foie gras. Delicious with aromatic and spicy Asian cuisine and fresh fruit.
