Shavings of pine, incense, juniper berries and dried rosemary make the 2023 Cabernet Franc Mizunara impossible to ignore. It is expansive and elegant upon entry, with depths of tart red fruits and salty mineral tones to balance as a hint of ground clove evolves towards the close, all elevated by cooling acidity. The 2023 lingers incredibly long, loaded with youthful tension as edgy tannins resonate, yet the final note is one of purity and freshness. This is an impressive marriage of excellent fruit and well-managed oak, yet patience is required. Stunning.
The 2023 Cabernet Franc presents a cascade of dried roses and dusty earth, coming together with savory herbs and nuances of green peppercorn as it slowly evolves in the glass. It displays a pretty inner sweetness and herbal lift before giving way to a silken wave of ripe raspberry and spice. A coating of fine-grained tannin frames the finish as it tapers off, expertly balanced, remarkably long and spicy to the core. In a word, fantastic.
The 2023 Syrah smolders up from the glass with dusty earth, peppercorns, grilled herbs and black olives complicating citrus-tinged blackberries. It displays silken depths of ripe red and black fruits elevated by nuances of violet and lavender. Hauntingly dark, it is structured for the cellar and exceptionally long, leaving hints of ground clove. Patience will be both required and rewarded. A radiant beast.
The 2024 Cabernet Franc Sans Soufre captivates with a darkly floral burst of peppery black raspberries and a whiff of smoky, seared meat. It splashes across the palate with liquid lavender and violet tones, as crisp minerality adds tactile form and red berry fruits saturate. The palate is left stained in primary concentration, dramatically long and perfumed, with a vivid licorice tinge and rose petal nuances. This is a wild wine. The 2024 was made with fruit from the Red Willow Vineyard and without the use of any sulfur.
The 2022 Nikko mixes curry leaf with crushed rocks, sesame seeds and mint to form its captivating bouquet. It is elegant in feel, with soothingly round bubbles and perfumed orchard fruits elevated by a hint of candied ginger. Nuances of hazelnut, spice and young kiwi linger incredibly long, despite remaining remarkably fresh. (Disgorged 2025.)
The 2024 Viognier is a model of purity and grace with a wild bouquet of green melon, spearmint and honeysuckle. It is deeply textural, nearly oily in feel, yet expertly balanced with crisp mineral tones enhancing its ripe orchard fruits. Honied inner florals and enriching hints of raw almond taper off fresh and lightly structured.
The 2024 Marsanne-Roussanne wafts up with a distinctively spicy bouquet, mixing confectionery tones with white flowers, peach sorbet and chamomile. The textures are unreal, seamless and silky yet nearly pillowy, with a stern salty minerality that brings it all into balance as white pit fruits swirl throughout. It cleans up beautifully, dramatically long and potent, leaving nuances of apricot and gingery spice.
