James Suckling - 100
Flint, dried apples, honey blossom, stone, mineral, and dried flowers. Full-bodied and so layered with great depth and sincerity. The fine tannins are very vertical and shows so many layers. Aged in large Stockinger casks for 20 months. Unique. Made from the best vines of old Wente clones planted in 1967. About 12% alcohol. You shouldn't really drink this now but hard not to.
RP- 96
Marked by more obvious smoky oak and notions of roasted nuts, the pineapple and lime-scented 2021 Chardonnay Corazon comes from the heart of the vineyard—all Old Wente selection, planted between 1967 and 1969. It's medium to full-bodied and generous on the palate yet also nicely focused, with a long, chiseled finish of citrus zest. Bravo.
2021 CORAZON CHARDONNAY
A unique collaboration between Master Sommelier Carlton
McCoy Jr. and Winemaker Nico Cueva, Haynes Vineyard is
a historic site producing wines of intent with a sense of
place that tell the story of the land. Focusing on Chardonnay
and Pinot Noir, the Haynes wines are vineyard designated
single-vineyard bottlings made from historic vines planted in
1968 in the heart of the Coombsville AVA.
TASTING NOTES
The crown jewel of the Haynes Vineyard, the Corazon Chardonnay is sourced from
the oldest vines in the vineyard. Intensely aromatic wine with minerality and
density similar to great Burgundy, it is crafted from the oldest Chardonnay vines in
the Napa Valley. Modeled after Burgundy of the late 80s and 90s, the wine is the
ultimate expression of the vineyard.
